What was your first real job?

My staff and I were having fun at lunch talking about our first "real" job.

Me? Picking corn. That's right, I could pick corn with the best of them. I was 14 when I started and worked that job until I was 16. Started at 5 a.m. and worked until it got too hot, usually around 11 a.m. or so. We had to wear long-sleeve shirts, jeans and boots.

The best part of that job was getting paid! We got paid cash everyday. We would all gather around the farmer (Mr. Sheffield) and he would pull out this ginormous wad of cash and pay all of us. Then we'd all hop on a huge truck and head home. Good times!

You?

Mine was mowing. I owned my own mowing company when I was 15-18. I ended up taking care of 5 lawns each summer and made over $3,000. Good times. Remember what it was like b4 responsibilities?

Working at the "Tropical Sno" Sno-Cone stand! I gave away WAY too many freebies. I was a young impressionable 15 year old being coerced by a cute 17 year old. Who is now my husband. I should probably go back and repay the owner of that little sno-cone shack for all his profits I gave away....

I coached the 7th grade dance team when I was 16. Not much has changed...except grade levels and pay grade!

My first job was to be a pain to any adults around me. Then when I was old enough to have a paying job, I worked with my father doing electrical work on new residential houses. Then I got into telemarketing. It sucked. I hated getting yelled at. I was actually told that I need to get a different job from the people I was calling. From there, good ol’ fast food. How the crap did I end up in ministry?
